Donald Trump to Host Governors at the White House Sunday
This year, awards season has been more political than ever, between politically- charged fashion statements on the red carpetand acceptance speeches that tackle current events (here’s looking at you, Meryl Streep).
But it seems President Donald Trumphimself won’t be tuning into the season’s biggest night of all, the Oscars, according to White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
During a White House press briefing on Wednesday afternoon, a reporter asked Spicer if President Trump would be watching the Academy Awards on Sunday, and what he thought of the politically-influenced moments in awards season thus far.
As for why many actors and actresses have chosen to make political statements, Spicer said: “I have no idea, it’s a free country.”
“I think Hollywood is known for being rather far to the left in its opinions.”
Spicer then said that Trump will instead be focusing on hosting the Governors Ball for the state governors from across the country, held during National Governors Association’s winter meeting — not to be confused with the Governors Ball after party held after the Oscars every year.
“I’ve got to be honest with you, I think the president will be hosting the Governors Ball that night, Mrs. Trump looks forward to putting on a phenomenal event and the first lady’s put a lot of time into this event that’s going to occur and welcoming our nation’s governors to the capital,” he said. “I have a feeling that’s where the president and the first lady are going to be focused on Sunday night.”

However, if there’s more political moments at the Oscars, Trump may tweet about it, as he did after Streep’s headline-making speech at the Golden Globes.
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..
He called her one of the “most overrated actresses in Hollywood” and said she “attacked” him, though Streep never uttered Trump’s name during her speech.
