Lukas Podolski singled out Alexis Sanchez for special praise after the midfielder’s stylish cameo in Arsenal’s 3-1 win against Cologne at The Emirates on Thursday night.
The retired Germany international is currently plying his trade in the Chinese Super League but managed to overcome the time difference to stay up and watch the Europa League clash between his two former teams.
Podolski moved to Arsenal from Cologne for an undisclosed fee in 2012 after the centre-forward scored 33 times in 88 games in the Bundesliga for the German club.
The popular forward won the FA Cup in 2014 before he was sent out on loan to Inter Milan before eventually sealing a permanent move to Galatasaray in 2016.
Arsenal came from behind behind to beat Cologne thanks to goals from Sead Kolasinac, Sanchez and Hector Bellerin in their first-ever Europa League game.
And Podolski was particularly impressed with Sanchez’s goal at The Emirates to secure three points in their opening group game.
Podolski wrote on Twitter: “#sanchez class !!!”
Podolski scored 31 goals in 82 appearances during a four-season stay at the north London club.
Arsenal will make the trip to defending Premier League champions in their next Premier League game.
