During a fiery speech to the UN, President Donald Trump wasn't afraid to state the authority of the United States as he said he would “ destroy North Korea,” and that he would “defend America's interest above all else."
There was only one line, however, that showed that the president wasn't messing around.
After bluntly stating that some participants in the UN were blatant human rights violators and that the United States pays 22% of the entire UN budget despite it being one out of 193 countries, Trump stated (emphasis added):
“Major portions of the world are in conflict andsome, in fact, are going to hell. But the powerful people in this room, under the guidance and auspices of the United Nations, can solve many of these vicious and complex problems. This should send a clear message to North Koreaand anyone else threatening the United States with military power.
The American people hope that one day soon the United Nations can be a much more accountable and effective advocate for human dignity and freedom around the world. In the meantime, we believe that no nation should have to bear a disproportionate share of the burden, militarily or financially.”
