Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has sat down with The Times this week. And the Special One has used to occasion to make some usual controversial remarks.
Mourinho has had his say on the transfer market.
That’s included the Man United boss having his say on why Philippe Coutinho didn’t leave Liverpool to join Barcelona.
He’s also trumpeted Man United’s success in the summer market.
Mourinho makes jest of Arsene Wenger
One of Mourinho’s favourite past times, of course, is to make fun of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
No one will ever forget when Mourinho branded the Arsenal boss as a “specialist in failure”.
The Man United boss has now brought back memories of that insult during his interview with the Times.
Mourinho was drawn into a discussion of whether he’s just a short-term manager. The Special One seemed to take exception to that label, as he quipped:
“What is the opposite of success?” he asks. Failure. “Right, failure,” he says, uttering the word as if it leaves a sour taste on his lips. “One who leaves the club in conditions for failure. That is a short-term manager. You can be there ten or 20 years and when you leave the club, it’s ready for failure.”This is an intriguing one. Is he talking about Arsène Wenger, whose legacy to his eventual successor at Arsenal looks less promising with every year that he stays, or even about Ferguson, whose glorious 26-year tenure at Old Trafford has been followed by four seasons of struggle?
