President Buhari’s kinsmen plead with Nigerians to leave him alone

Kinsmen of President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura have pleaded with Nigerians to stay out his private life and pray more instead for his quick recovery.



The kinsmen made the plea in various messages to Nigerians during a visit by The Punch to Daura, the president’s hometown in Katsina state.

Leading the kinsmen Lawan Saidu, Ahmed Haroun and Seidu Awalu, who are elders in Daura, who said the President should be left alone to recuperate.


They also urged Nigerians to pray more for God to grant Buhari good health.

"Anyone can be sick, so why is everybody attacking the President as if he is not a human being? The last time he was in the country, he told Nigerians that he was ill and had never been that ill, so what else do you want him to do?"
Awalu asked.

An unnamed senior official in the Emir of Daura Umar Farouq Umar who said the president’s privacy should be respected.
He said:“We offer prayers for him here on a daily basis and every Jumaat; we pray for him in the mosques and eagerly look forward to his safe return to Nigeria very soon.”


Katsina State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress Mallam Tanimu Saulawa said:
"I believe the President had done what was expected of him constitutionally before his medical trip. This is our President and Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or religion, should show the spirit of nationalism.
“We should rather intensify prayers for him for his recovery because the national responsibilities on him are enormous.

The state coordinator and the general secretary of the organisation, Mr Waheed Odunuga and Mr Adekunle Aderibigbe, respectively, made the appeal in a statement they jointly signed on Friday July 14, in Lagos.

According to them, the governor should have left behind the 2015 Presidential election outcome and move forward in the interest of the nation.
